The honest answer is that it depends on how you use it. But that doesn't mean we can't give you concrete figures. How many liters a CO2 cylinder really yields
The industry standard reference is the 60-liter cylinder. That number is not random or just for marketing: it means that, with a medium level of carbonation, the cylinder carbonates around 60 liters of water before becoming empty.

Because gas consumption is not determined by the liter of water, but by how many times you press the carbonation button. What determines the duration: the three main factors
1. The level of carbonation
This is, by far, the most determining factor. Each press releases a certain amount of CO2 into the water. Two presses versus four can literally mean double the cylinder's duration. If you like heavily carbonated water, expect your cylinder to perform at the lower end of the range.
2. Frequency of use
It seems obvious, but it's worth considering when calculating. It's not the same for one person to carbonate a bottle every other day as it is for a family of four who brings sparkling water to the table at lunch and dinner. In the latter case, planning refills in advance is no longer optional.
3. The machine and water temperature
The type of carbonator influences how much gas it delivers per press. And there's a detail many people overlook: cold water absorbs CO2 better. Carbonating room-temperature water requires more presses to achieve the same result, leading to wasted gas.
How to tell it's running out (before you're halfway through)
No sophisticated indicator is needed. The signs are quite clear:
• The sound changes. The characteristic hiss when you press becomes weaker and shorter.
• You need more presses for the same level of bubbles as always.
• The bubbles disappear quickly. The water seems carbonated when served, but goes flat in a few minutes.
• The cylinder feels light. Homemade trick: compare its weight with a full one. The difference is noticeable in your hand.

7 tricks to make your CO2 cylinder last longer
1. Always carbonate very cold water. This is the most cost-effective trick of all. Leave the bottle in the fridge for at least a couple of hours beforehand. CO2 dissolves much better when cold, so you get more bubbles with fewer presses.
2. Lower your usual carbonation level by one notch. Try carbonating with one less press than you usually do. In most cases, the difference in the glass is minimal, and the gas savings are considerable.
3. Fill the bottle to the mark, no more, no less. Carbonating with too little water wastes gas in the empty space of the carbonator head.
4. Close it tightly and serve promptly. A good portion of "lost" CO2 isn't used in the machine, but escapes from a poorly sealed bottle in the fridge.
5. Check the head gasket. A dry or poorly placed gasket causes silent leaks that empty your cylinder without you noticing. Clean it occasionally and check that it's seated properly.
6. Screw the cylinder in fully, without forcing it. Not loose (leak) nor violently tight (damages the thread and gasket). Firmly and all the way.
7. Do not carbonate anything other than water. Juices and soft drinks foam, dirty the carbonator head, and force you to repeat the process. Carbonate water and add flavor afterward, in the glass.
